Linerless Label Basics

1. What are linerless labels?

Linerless labels are pressure-sensitive thermal labels made without release liner or backing paper. A special release coating allows the roll to unwind cleanly while keeping the adhesive ready for application.

2. What is the difference between linerless labels and regular labels?

Regular labels must be peeled away from a disposable backing liner. Linerless labels have no backing paper, so they can be printed, cut, and applied directly with less waste and fewer handling steps.

3. What are the main advantages of linerless labels?

Linerless labels reduce backing waste, hold more printable material per roll, require fewer roll changes, support variable label lengths, and make repetitive labeling faster.

4. Do linerless labels require a special printer?

Yes. Linerless labels should be used with printers specifically designed or configured for linerless media. Standard thermal printers may experience adhesive buildup, feeding problems, or cutter damage.

5. Can linerless labels print different label lengths?

Yes. Compatible printers can cut each label according to the printed content, allowing one continuous roll to produce multiple label lengths.

6. What adhesive types are available for linerless labels?

Linerless labels can use different adhesive properties, including permanent, semi-permanent, removable, and repositionable adhesives. Adhesive coverage can also vary, such as full-coverage or patterned (diamond) coating.

7. What is the difference between full coverage and diamond adhesive?

Full-coverage and diamond refer to how the adhesive is applied, not whether the adhesive is permanent or removable. Full-coverage adhesive coats the entire back surface, while diamond adhesive uses a patterned coating with adhesive-free areas. Adhesive tack and removability depend on the adhesive formulation.
